This semester at the CAC we're overhauling the way we interact with our patrons . These interwebs of ours are an astonishing thing. Another new and heady matter we're doing this semester that you should know about is: Weekly Wednesday Winners (#weeklywednesdaywinners)
What are Weekly Wednesday Winners, you lot ask?: This will consist of ticket giveaways to both our Facebook friends and Twitter followers. Here's how information technology works: These are currently two split up contests! On Facebook, you but have to comment on the designated status to add together your proper noun to our weekly cartoon. On Twitter, y'all have to re-tweet the specific tweet @MC_CulturalArts to be entered into the weekly drawing. Below, y'all're going to find some basic information about the Cultural Arts Centre. Those of y'all that take been to events here before probably know most of it, but there are some fun pictures that you may non have seen before.
THE CULTURAL ARTS CENTER
HISTORY: The Cultural Arts Middle was the third, and final phase of Montgomery Higher's Takoma Park/Silvery Spring Campus expansion project. The edifice itself was designed past theSmithGroup and opened in 2009. The inaugural performance was given by the legendary Aretha Franklin.
OUR MISSION: Through the programs of the Cultural Arts Heart, we seek to improve cultural literacy, encourage cross-cultural understanding, and to build bridges between the arts, cultural studies, and all disciplines concerned with the expression of civilization. We seek to acknowledge the differences and similarities between our own cultures and those surrounding u.s..In gild to encounter this mission, the CAC provides a comprehensive program focusing on the cultural intersection of the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences, and the influence of human culture on the natural and built environments. We examine traditional and contemporary ethnic, American, and international cultural expression through presentationof music, theatre, trip the light fantastic toe, film, lectures, forums and cultural exhibitions. Nosotros ofttimes hold informal gatherings to encourage opportunities for our students, the customs, faculty, and staff to gather and engage in discussions about a variety of rich cultures.Nosotros besides strive to provide opportunities addressing higher initiatives related to diversity and multiculturalism. Both our programs and our facility aim to support all areas of the campus; including student life, academic programs, and external customs use (in the class of performances, workshops, conferences, and more).
OUR PROGRAMS/SERIES: The Cultural Arts Middle has several different series that provide a framework for all our current and futurity programming. OurMainstage Guest Artist Series features artists representing unlike communities and cultures throughout the world. Past & current performers include: The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company (US/People's republic of china/Taiwan), The Klezmatics (Jewish/Eastern European), The Teetotalers (Ireland) an all star band featuring Martin Hayes, Native Pride (Indigenous North American), Ensemble Español (Spain), Symphony of The Potomac (exploration of 20th c. American composer Chadwick), Peter Mawanga & The Amaravi Movement (Malawi, Africa), Warner Williams (Maryland Piedmont Blues), Bach Sinfonia (Italian Renaissance classical music program), Pistolera (Mexican-American Latin trip the light fantastic, balladic music).King Street Cultural Arts Night Celebration is a customs upshot to commemorate the intersections of culture, arts, sciences, and humanities; it combines performances with lectures, visual arts gallery openings, and receptions.Around the World Passport Series provides fun, interactive opportunities for kids of all ages to learn most globe cultures, geography, and folk traditions; nosotros create a fact filled passport for each semester. TheCulture Matters Forumexamines the different facets of culture through the arts, sciences, and humanities. Theatre 1 is our Mainstage. It is a 500 seat multi-use concert hall and theatre infinite. There are 360 seats on the orchestra level and 140 seats on the balcony level. The theatre has removable seating for mobility-impaired patrons on both the orchestra and balcony levels; it also has partial-admission seating (seats with an adjustable armrest for ease of entry/exit) on the orchestra level.

The infinite has been used for workshops, dance concerts, musical performances, lectures, multimedia presentations, meetings, films, theatrical performances, and we anticipate that it will be used for much more in the hereafter!

| Theatre ii Seating Chart Blue squares represent ADA seating |
Theatre ii is primarily used as a lecture hall and laboratory theatre infinite. Information technology has 116 seats, including removable seating for the mobility impaired. Each of the permanent seats are standard lecture hall seats, with "flip-upwards desks." This space is used each semester to firm the higher performing arts serial, which is sponsored by the Communication and Performing Arts department on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus.

The Cultural Arts Center Gallery has rotating visual art exhibitions by a wide variety of artists. The walls are adjustable.

The George & Ruth Tretter Trip the light fantastic toe Studio looks out over the intersection at Georgia Avenue and is used mainly as a classroom infinite for Montgomery College students. It has also been used for receptions and workshops.

The complex as well has a large anteroom. As you enter, yous volition see the box office & data booth directly to your right. Hours are i hour prior to curtain time or by appointment. On the other side of the box part is our concession stand, which is open for sales at all of our Mainstage Invitee Artist events.
Throughout the lobby are tables and chairs for our patrons apply. Our vestibule as well serves as a gathering space for our students earlier and subsequently their classes.
The edifice too contains a film editing lab; and multiple rooms for academic classes, meetings, and workshops. All of these gathering spaces are immediately adjacent to our large main anteroom, or atrium.
A large marquee faced due north at the intersection of Georgia Avenue, Eastward-West Highway (Dr.-410), and 13th Street and it informs the community near events occurring at the Cultural Arts Center. (Pictured at the showtime of this post.)
